Educator Workshops

Change the way your students think about science and nature.

As educators, it’s important to teach students about our state's natural splendor. Nature captures students’ imagination and excites them about science. Learn how you can change the way your students think about science and nature.

Our community naturalists are trained facilitators who offer Project WET, Project WILD, Flying WILD, and Project Learning Tree Trainings to formal and informal educators of Wyoming and Colorado. These trainings are available for PTSB,  college credit and CEU’s.

To hear about upcoming workshops, subscribe to our newsletter or checkout our events page. For questions, contact Jacelyn Downey at jdowney@audubon.org or (307) 756-3941.

Curricula We Cover

Project Learning Tree

An award winning, multi-disciplinary environmental education program for educators and students in PreK-grade 12. Project learning Tree, a program of the American Forest Foundation, is one of the most widely used environmental education programs in the United States and abroad. It continues to set the standard for environmental education excellence.

Project WET

Since 1984, the Project WET Foundation has dedicated itself to the mission of reaching children, parents, teachers and community members of the world with water education. A 501(c)(3) not-for-profit organization, Project WET achieves its mission of worldwide water education by:

  • publishing water resource materials in several languages.
  • providing training workshops on diverse water topics (e.g., watersheds, water quality, water conservation).
  • organizing community water events, such as Make a Splash with Project WET water festivals and the Global Water Education Village™.
  • building a worldwide network of educators, water resource professionals and scientists.

Project WILD

The activities found in Project WILD instructional materials are intended for use in both classroom and informal settings and are designed to support state and national academic standards appropriate for grades K-12. The activities can easily be adapted to meet the learning requirements for academic disciplines ranging from science and environmental education to social studies, math, and language arts. Educators may choose one or more Project WILD activities to teach a concept or skill. The activities may be integrated into existing courses of study, or an entire set of activities may serve effectively as the basis for a specific course.

Flying WILD

Flying WILD's focus on migratory birds is designed to inspire young people to discover more about the natural world. It encourages middle school students to get involved in activities that promote environmental learning and stewardship. The Flying WILD program places special emphasis on reaching urban schools with student populations that traditionally receive few opportunities to participate in environmental education initiatives.

By providing teachers with educational tools and partnerships, the Flying WILD program encourages the integration of bird education and conservation activities into the school curriculum in an engaging, successful, and academically purposeful manner. In addition to Flying WILD: An Educator's Guide to Celebrating Birds, Flying WILD offers training for educators to implement the program in their schools. This approach empowers teachers, students, school administrators, and community organizations to tap into the services and resources provided by the network of bird experts, bird organizations, and environmental professionals assisting with the Flying WILD initiative.
