Grassland birds have declined more than any other group of birds in North America. Since the vast majority of their habitat is on private land, working with ranchers is our best hope for conserving them. When managed properly, cattle create and sustain diverse and quality habitat that grassland birds need. Audubon is partnering with ranchers to implement bird-friendly land management. By certifying ranches that meet our protocols, we empower meat consumers to support grassland bird conservation with their purchases. And, we’re providing an economic incentive for ranchers to maximize bird habitat across millions of acres.

Dusty Downey, Audubon Rockies' Conservation Ranching lead, and Dallas May, co-owner of May Ranch, certified by Audubon's Conservation Ranching Initiative, in Lamar, Colorado, will present on this innovative approach to rangeland bird conservation at the High Plains Snow Goose Festival.
