Starting in 2020, Coloradans who receive a state income tax refund can donate part or all of their state income tax refunds to a nonprofit of their choice. Here’s how you donate yours to Audubon Rockies and support bird conservation in Colorado:
When you have determined that you will receive a Colorado refund, use the “Voluntary Contributions” schedule to choose an eligible nonprofit. Look for the new additional option of “Donate to a Colorado Nonprofit Fund” on that schedule and insert all three of the following:
- Nonprofit’s name: Audubon Rockies
- Nonprofit’s Secretary of State CCSA Registration Number: 20023008029
- Amount of donation
Note: Different tax filing software programs (like TurboTax) will display prompts for tax filers getting refunds in various ways and you will have to look for “Donate to a Colorado Fund.” If you are using a tax preparer, like H&R Block or a CPA, you will need to inform the tax preparer to include the Audubon Rockies’ name, CCSA registration number, and amount.
When making a donation through Donate to a Colorado Nonprofit Fund, you can
- Only designate ONE write-in nonprofit
- Give all or a part of your refund
- Only give up to the amount of your total refund (donations over the refund are void)
