How to Apply to Habitat Hero

Presenter: Jamie Weiss, Audubon Rockies’ Habitat Hero Coordinator

Help us bring conservation home, one garden at a time and create a bird-friendly community!  Your wildscape could be recognized as a Habitat Hero garden and this presentation will look at the components that create a healthy living landscape.  We will also walk through the new application that allows room for growth with our gardeners by offering a tiered system.

It’s easy to apply, so start thinking about how you can show the greatest habitat diversity in providing food, shelter and water for wildlife.  Also think about creative solutions your wildscape can provide such as water savings through the use of regionally adapted plants.  As your gardens are in full bloom this summer, start snapping photos and consider what makes your wildscape special and how your garden may be a bona fide Habitat Hero garden. Watch here

Rain Barrels: A Useful Water Stewardship Tool. Now For Colorado Too!

Presenter: Abby Burk, Western Rivers Program Lead of Audubon Rockies

Colorado is mighty progressive on some issues, but up until now it has been the only state in the country with a ban on residential rain barrels. Come August 10th of 2016 rain barrels are out of the jail house in Colorado. Audubon Rockies was an official supporter of legalizing residential rain barrels. We believe rain barrels are useful tools to increase water stewardship, conservation, and for people to better understand the value of water. Want to know more about the two year story of rain barrel legalization in Colorado? And, how you too can own and operate residential rain barrels legally? Then join Abby Burk, Western Rivers Program Lead for Audubon Rockies, as she takes us through the hurdles and ultimate success story of rain barrels in Colorado. Watch here
