Growing up on the east coast of Florida near the Everglades, Chelsea developed a passion for conservation, particularly focused on the ocean, wetlands, and coastal ecosystems. She was so drawn to saltwater that she found herself chasing it inland to the largest saline lake in the Western Hemisphere. After earning her master’s in marinescience and oceanography from Florida Atlantic University’s Harbor Branch Oceanographic Institute, Chelsea’s career took her from coral restoration in Thailand, as well as sea turtle population research, manatee stranding response and education, and scientific diving for seagrass and coral monitoring back home in Florida. She is excited to apply her knowledge of wetland ecology, population monitoring, and community science experience to her role at the Gillmor Sanctuary! When she’s not working at the sanctuary, Chelsea can be found paddleboarding, hiking, scuba diving, or traveling somewhere new.
