Hummingbirds are some of the most beloved birds across the Western Hemisphere, including in the Rockies. It comes as no surprise. With their stunning plumage, impressive flight capabilities, feisty attitudes, and remarkable migratory feats, hummingbirds are truly fascinating. Here in the Rockies region, there are four species of hummingbird: the Broad-tailed (Selasphorus platycercus) and Rufous (Selasphorous rufus) hummingbirds are the most common with Calliope (Selasphorus calliope) and Black-chinned (Archilochus alexandri) hummingbirds seen in smaller numbers.
