Sometimes it may feel like your vote doesn’t matter. It’s easy to lose sight of its impact, but the fact is, your vote counts, for years after an election. And, voting isn’t the only way you can make a difference! No matter where you live, you have an important role to play in protecting the birds and lands you care about and leaving a legacy for future generations. How will you step up? Here are some ideas:

Research the Issues

In addition to voting, it’s important to inform your voting decisions. Elected officials at all levels on the ballot make key decisions that affect our daily lives and the future of birds and the habitats they need. Remember to save time before elections to learn about the candidates and measures on the ballot. Attending public meetings is a great way to get information directly from the source and contribute your feedback.

  1. Want to know what’s on your ballot? Use Ballotpedia’s Sample Ballot Tool.
  2. Find debates/forums in your state, along with other election information at Vote411.

Raise Your Voice

Voting isn’t the only way to add your voice. You can also sign petitions, call or email the offices of your elected officials, and volunteer to support the candidates and causes you believe in.

And don’t underestimate the impact you have on friends and family! Encourage them to vote and share the facts you learn about the issues you care about.
